The Mobicon was designed specifically when owner and CEO of Mobicon Systems Tom Schults determined that there MUST be a better way to handle containers than the forklifts and reach stackers already on offer. So he went about finding a solution, and the Mobicon Straddle Carrier was born.
So what makes it different?
Uniquely designed the container becomes part of the straddle carrier when it is being moved.
Unlike large forklifts and reach stackers, the wheel weights of the Mobicon are extremely low (half) so there is less pressure on the ground as the Mobicon moves across a yard.
Exclusive to the Mobicon design is the fact that it can move inside and under awnings. Able to transport containers inside a building, the Mobicon is only around 4m high when carrying a container. It can also load containers onto road vehicles and the lift-height is 1.7metres.
A specific difference of the Mobicon Straddle Carrier is the lack of use of chains. The Mobicon attaches itself in the side holes of the container corner castings reducing back and hand injuries caused by handling chain hooks.
Finally a distinctly unique point of the Mobicon is the cost savings it provides. Reduced fuel consumption, lower yard & machinery maintenance costs, lower purchase price and increased operational efficiencies mean that the Mobicon Straddle Carrier definitely stands out from the crowd.
