Since 2008 Mobicon Systems has been delivering custom-built Mobicon Mini Straddle Carriers to the United States Navy and in early 2014 we have delivered yet another, the first of a new contract of 10 Mobicons for the Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).
In 2004 conversations first began between Mobicon Systems and the builders of the Navy’s newest LCS.
The US Navy’s LCS is a high speed, 127-metre aluminium trimaran, which provides the Navy with multi-mission capability and superior aviation operations. These ships are fast, highly manoeuvrable and geared to supporting mine detection and elimination, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare.
The trimaran hull permits the ship to carry a large capacity of modules supporting the LCS missions. Therefore a container handler needed to be able to work within the hull of the LCS. This is where the builders of these ships needed assistance and Mobicon Systems was able to provide the solution with a heavily patented specifically designed Mobicon Mini Straddle Carrier. This straddle carrier is the only one of its kind in the world that can work on an aluminium ship.
The first of a large contract of LCS Mobicons was delivered in 2008 and we are proud to continue to have a strong relationship and a renewed order for more of these great machines for the United States Navy.
